When to Book Holiday Lights in Orange County (Before the Calendar Fills)

Planning holiday lights in Orange County? Learn the three booking tiers, from Thanksgiving-lit to parade-ready, and why early requests get the best dates.

Holiday lighting is one of the few home services where timing decides almost everything. Every installer has a limited number of crew days, and every homeowner wants to be lit at the same moment.

The good news: you do not need to decide in a rush. You only need to know which kind of season you want, and then book in the right window. Here is how it works along the coast.

Why Booking Order Matters

We install a limited number of homes each week, and requests are booked in order. That is not a sales line. It is simple capacity. Each home gets a custom design, a careful installation by our insured crews, and a place on the maintenance route for the season.

When the first installs of the season fill, the next homes move to the following week, and so on. The earlier you request your free design consultation, the more installation dates you have to choose from.

Think of it like a dinner reservation on a holiday weekend. The tables do not vanish all at once, but the best times go first, and once a night is full, it is full. Crews work in sequence, home by home, and every install needs the time to be done properly: a measured design, careful clipping, and a final walk-through at dusk. We would rather tell you honestly that a week is full than rush the work.

Three Timing Goals, Three Booking Windows

Most coastal homeowners fall into one of three groups. Knowing yours tells you how early to reach out.

  • The Thanksgiving-lit home. You want the house glowing for the family gathering and the start of the season. These are the earliest installs of the year, so this group should book first.
  • The Christmas Walk home. Balboa Island hosts its Christmas Walk, traditionally the first Sunday of December. If your home is on or near the route, you want to be lit before the crowds arrive, so you book with a little room to spare.
  • The parade-ready home. The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade traditionally runs five nights in the third week of December. Bayfront homes along the route want a display at full strength before the first night, with the Ring of Lights contest in mind.

Official dates for each event are published by the organizers each year, so check their announcements before you pick a target date. Whichever tier fits you, the safest plan is to ask for your consultation early.

If you are not sure which group you belong to, ask one question: what is the first night you want people to see the house? Start there and work backward. Most homeowners are surprised how quickly a few weeks of lead time disappear once design, scheduling, and installation are counted.

A Note on November Weather

Santa Ana wind events can show up in November, and they are hard on anything that was hung carelessly. Custom-cut commercial-grade line, secured with proper clips and tension, is built to stay put. It is another reason we like to install a little earlier rather than squeezing everything into the final days before an event.

Booking earlier also means you can make decisions calmly, with room to adjust the design, rather than choosing under deadline pressure.

What Happens After You Book

Once your spot is reserved, the process is simple and calm. You will not need to climb, hang, or untangle anything.

  • We meet at your home for the design walk and give you an exact written number.
  • We schedule your installation in the order requests came in.
  • Our crew installs your display and tests every section.
  • We maintain it all season, then take it down in January.

You can read the full process under how it works. Every install also includes a free gutter cleaning by Pacific Home Exteriors, our proud sponsor.

You approve the design and the written number before anything goes up, so booking a spot never commits you to something you have not seen.

Good questions

How early should I request a consultation?

As early as you can. We install a limited number of homes each week and book them in order, so early requests have the widest choice of dates. If you want to be lit by Thanksgiving or ahead of the Christmas Walk, reach out now rather than waiting until the week you want the lights.

Can I still book if I want to be lit for the boat parade?

Often, yes. The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade traditionally runs five nights in the third week of December, and parade-ready installs are scheduled ahead of it. Availability depends on how many homes are already booked, so call or text (949) 919-7396 and we will tell you honestly what is open.

Do I pay more to be installed earlier?

Your price depends on roofline length, complexity, trees, and add-ons, not on the calendar date alone. A free design consultation gives you an exact written number. Because design, maintenance, and the January takedown are included, an early install simply means a longer stretch of beautiful evenings.
