What Happens in January: Holiday Light Takedown and Storage
What happens when the holidays end? See how professional takedown and storage work, and how labeled runs and a home map speed up your second year.
Most people think about holiday lighting in October and November. Almost no one thinks about what happens on January 2nd, when the season is over, the house is still wrapped in lights, and the ladder is somewhere in the back of the garage.
That is exactly why takedown is included in what we do. Here is what happens after the holidays, why it matters, and how it makes every future season easier.
Why Takedown Is Included
A holiday display is only a good idea if the whole season is handled, including the end of it. Takedown is the part of lighting that homeowners most often postpone, and the part that most often goes wrong.
Taking lights down is physical, repetitive work on roofs and ladders, and it is rarely done in pleasant weather. Lights left up too long can fade the magic, collect dust, and pick up wear. Lights pulled down in a hurry get tangled, broken, or tossed in a box, and next year they are a mess.
We include January takedown because we promised you would never touch a ladder, and that promise is only real if it covers the whole season. Design, installation, in-season maintenance, and takedown with storage are one service, not four separate things to arrange.
How Takedown Works
When your takedown date arrives, our insured crew returns to your home and removes the display with the same care it was installed with.
- Careful removal. Line is lifted from clips and mounting points gently, so roofing, tile, stucco, and trim are not scraped or marked.
- Labeled runs. Each section of custom-cut line is labeled for the part of your home it belongs to, such as front eave, garage gable, or palm. Nothing is coiled into one anonymous heap.
- Inspection as it comes down. We look at each section as we remove it. Anything worn or damaged is noted so it can be handled before the next season.
- Tidy finish. Clips, hardware, and debris are cleared, and the property is left clean.
Your takedown date is scheduled around the end of the season, and we will confirm it with you, so there is no scramble.
Storage, So You Do Not Have To
Commercial-grade line is custom cut to your home, which means it is an investment worth protecting. Storage is part of the service. We keep your labeled runs organized and stored properly, so nothing is crammed into your garage, lost behind holiday boxes, or left to tangle.
Storage also keeps your display intact as a set. The pieces that fit your home stay together, ready for the next installation, instead of being scattered or forgotten.
The Home Map That Makes Year Two Faster
During design and installation, we build a plan of your home: where each run goes, which clips are used, where power is connected, and which features are lit. Takedown is where that plan pays off.
Because every run is labeled and every placement is recorded, the second season starts with a head start. We are not measuring and guessing again. We are following a map of your own house, adjusting it if you want something new, and installing it with confidence.
- Faster installation. A known layout means less time on site and fewer surprises.
- Consistency. Your display looks the way you loved it, unless you choose to change it.
- Easy updates. Want to add a tree, a garland, or a new roofline? We start from the map and extend it.
- Simple planning. Because a repeat install is well documented, planning your next season is straightforward.
A Free Gutter Cleaning at Takedown
Here is a benefit most homeowners do not expect. Every install includes a free gutter cleaning by Pacific Home Exteriors, our proud sponsor. Pacific Home Exteriors is a home exterior remodeling company serving Southern California, and its team knows gutters.
Winter rain makes clean gutters especially important. With the lights down and the roofline accessible, it is the ideal moment for the cleaning, which clears leaves and debris that collected over the year. It is a small gift that protects your home, and it is included with your service.

Good questions
Is takedown really included?
Yes. Your service includes design, installation, in-season maintenance, and a January takedown with storage included. You never touch a ladder, from the first light to the last. Pricing depends on roofline length, complexity, trees, and add-ons, and your exact written number covers the whole season.
What is the home map and how does it help?
It is a record of where each labeled run goes on your home and how it was attached. When you return for another season, it lets us install faster and more consistently, and it makes changes easy, because we start from a plan of your own house.
Who does the free gutter cleaning?
Pacific Home Exteriors, our proud sponsor, provides a free gutter cleaning with every install. It is scheduled to take advantage of the moment when the lights are down and the roofline is accessible. Ask us about timing at your consultation.
